Somebody’s Baby began during the early year of my own movement through motherhood and postpartum, but over time I realized the work was asking a bigger question than how mothers survive. It was asking what it means for people to remain human while caring for other people. Motherhood changed the way I moved through the world emotionally, physically, socially, creatively, and spiritually. It made me pay attention to how often people are expected to carry invisible weight quietly while continuing to nurture everyone around them. It also sharpened my awareness of how deeply people want to feel seen, considered, comforted, and connected to themselves again. Somebody’s Baby is what grew from that. Motherhood is the entry point, but I believe that if you talk about motherhood long enough, you’ll end up talking about everything. I’m not interested in telling women, or anyone, the “right” way to mother or live their lives. I’m interested in creating language for our lives, spaces where we feel remembered, and reminders that tenderness is still ours, even though we’re all grown up.
